Carbon Reduction
in Higher Education
The Climate Change Act 2008 aims to improve carbon management and help the transition towards a low carbon economy in the UK. It sets the world's first legally binding reduction targets for greenhouse gas emissions of at least 34 percent by 2020 and at least 80 percent by 2050, against a 1990 baseline.
Lumos Education will assist Higher Education Institutions in acheiving the 2020 Carbon Reduction target of 34 percent.
Lumos Education can accurately report on building utilisation and highlight rooms and buildings that are under utilised. By improving room utilisation, Universities could avoid the need for costly building and expansion plans.
Reports are also available to show innapropriate usage of rooms, for example a small group using a large room that is costly to heat. We can show how many times rooms have been allocated for an event but not used.
Lumos Education can also integrate with building management systems to ensure that rooms are not being heated when they are not in use and lighting is switched off.
By combining attendance reports, room utilisation reports and energy usage, it will be possible for an institution to demonstrate the reduction in their carbon usage.
